A very smart man once told me to imagine a bottle of coke, then imagine turning it upside down, then imagine taking the cap off and thats the way to rotate the nut when you're undoing it. ![]() Also, on an unrelated note, changing the filter at the same time as the oil is not really necessary, the filter isn't something which just lets a stream of crap through once its full or something, so you don't have to worry about that. The only thing that can happen is that the oil filter will make it harder for the pump to get oil, which may cause low pressure supply issues at low RPM. Its not likely to be a big deal though unless you REALLY ignore the filter, so don't stress too much about changing the filter with the oil every time, especially if you change the oil very frequently (like a lot more than the service schedule dictates). That being said, I change the filter every time I change the oil, but I also don't do an oil change unless its time according to the service schedule. ![]() |

Another way is, if you are using a ratchet, you can set it to the right direction when it's up the right way and then flip it over and go nuts.

RE: How to Change The Oil Filter.
Is there a tutorial on doing a full oil change? It'll be the first time attempted on this bike. Didn't do any of my own maintenance before on my other bikes that were under warranty. A maintenence for dummies series would be nice.

RE: How to Change The Oil Filter.
I recieved a new oil filter in the mail few days ago and it is slightly damaged... the paper veins are slightly bent sideways from the top of the filter being pushed down... so does both ends of the filter need to be straight as a die to be used !!!
Nice thread... very helpful !!! |
