Cardboard Datsun
So a good mate of mine had a fancy dress party recently.
The theme was the letter 'D'.

I thought long and hard about what to wear, so many good options.
I then remembered that this friend has two Datsun 1600's!

Perfect...

I then thought I'd be able to knock up a cardboard Datsun pretty quick. It ended up taking about 3 nights after work and most of a Saturday.

Here's some pics:

I started with a picture of a 1600 from a model to get the dimensions close(ish) to realistic
[Image: 2-1.jpg]

Here is a shot of the side
[Image: 1-1.jpg]

Both sides and the bonnet cut out
[Image: 3-1.jpg]

Starting to take shape (turning into a bigger job than I thought)

Bonnet on, waiting for glue to dry
[Image: 9.jpg]

Yep, more glue
[Image: 10.jpg]

I was just going to have the wheels kind of stuck to the 'chassis' without the ability to roll.
Then my neighbour came past and said i HAD to make them roll.
That meant I had to change the design a bit and cut some MDF bits to hold the axles
[Image: 11.jpg]

So lets make a wheel
[Image: 5.jpg]

I printed a picture of a Watanabe rim to keep with the 'genuine feel' of the build.
These were the original mag wheels (actually magnesium on the Datsun rally cars)

Bit of paint. The other circles are for the inside of the wheels
[Image: 7.jpg]

Four wheels, sick bro
[Image: 8.jpg]

OK, time to chuck on some paint. F#*K, running out of time...

So I drove to the party with this in the back of my car (about a one hour drive) when the paint and glue wasn't 100% dry. I had officially run out of time Sad
I got to the party and quickly dry the lines of the body onto the paint.
I wish I had more time because I am sure I could of done a better job, but it's only for a dress up party. meh.

Here's the finished photos

The straps go over the shoulders and the car sits around waist height
[Image: 17.jpg]

You can see the torso size whole from underneath
[Image: 18.jpg]

So, that's how to make a dodgy Datsun 1600.
The party was great, I only turned around and knocked bottles of a table once. It then came off when things got a bit looser.
I was happy my neighbour convinced me to make the wheels actually roll.

Cool story hey bros.

P.S. WTF do I do with this thing now??? lol

Ace costume though... Why don't you paint it up properly and then disassemble for another fancy party costume?

RE: Cardboard Datsun
One point of interest.

If you made the bonnet open and close you could have had a "Dick in a Box"
