RE: Irish influx
I've worked with heaps of Irishmen over the years and I'm struggling to think of any that I didn't reckon were top blokes. Not sure if it's me that gets along with the Irish or whether the Irish just get along with everyone. I think it might be the former though because one thing we seem to have in common is our contempt for dickheads. But the later is definitely true too.
I'd go as far as to say that the characteristics of Australians are better matched to the Irish than any other nationality. There's a laconic nature to both sides that meshes well I reckon. And drinking. 'tiK. If a scientist created another universe from nothing, explained it and showed everyone how to do it, religious people would still thank god. |

RE: Irish influx
Yep, definitely. I'm working with 2 at the moment and one in particular has quite a network of friends arriving and departing. He's also applied for permanent residency and should get it in March. Nearly all seek 'sponsored' employment that allows them to stay beyond the regular visa period too.
When my folks where in Ireland late last year they told me that pretty much everyone they spoke to had a son or daughter, niece or nephew over here. It kinda seems like it but it's a good thing. 'tiK. If a scientist created another universe from nothing, explained it and showed everyone how to do it, religious people would still thank god. |

RE: Irish influx
hooray for white australia
why are the getting permanent residency so easily/quickly? also i find it abit stereotypical/generalising that you guys can say that the characteristics of Australians are better matched to the Irish than any other nationality... maybe if you're talking about the white bogan kind?
