It seems I have broken the #1 rule for projects. Not just by 1 bike, but try 3.
Alongside the macdonald's racer comes project Bling - originally handed down to me from Lane, I promised I would look after the girl well and get her back to looking just how she should. This thread will consist of mainly pictures and videos of the (mostly aesthetic) transformation that this bike will go through. TO DO LIST [x] - Get the bike running [x] - Thorough clean of internals and externals [x] - New fairings [x] - Full service --- [x] - Battery --- [x] - Spark Plugs --- [x] - Radiator Flush + New Coolant --- [x] - Engine Oil and Filter --- [x] - Fork Seals and Oil --- [x] - Wheel Bearings and Seals --- [x] - Carbies Cleaned --- [x] - Cables Lubed --- [x] - Reg Rec --- [x] - Front & rear brakes bled and fluid replaced --- [x] - Rear shock adjusted --- [x] - Chain Lubed & Adjusted --- [x] - Wheels Balanced [x] - Paint tank [x] - New exhaust system [x] - Aftermarket muffler [x] - Re polish frame, subframe, wheels, forks, etc. [x] - Carbie Overhaul and tune Here are pics taken directly from Lane's thread from selling the bike. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is how I picked her up, she was running, but like a bag of flacid dicks. The journey to get her from the Northern Beaches to the Eastern Suburbs was far from easy and took just under 3 hours (comparing to the 45mins it took me by public transport). She died on me about 5 times from overheating, or the battery dying, or the carbies shitting themselves and readjusting the idle to 0.5k just on the way home. I wont mention how many motorists I managed to piss off with the slash cut exhaust that was on it, revving it above idle so it wouldn't die at the lights. A few months later, and she is a completely new bike! After ALOT of mechanical work done, parts replaced and internals cleaned, she runs like a bike should, and has never skipped a beat! The exhaust system made the biggest difference, followed by a carbie rebuild and overhaul, replacing all seals and washers and a well needed tune up. Right now, she idles steady at 1.5k and revs without flatspots throughout its rev range. She won't lag up at all, and returns swiftly and smoothly back to a perfect idle after being revved to said RPM's every single time. (Video to come!) Here are some pics of how she's looking right this moment! All she needs now is a front wheel polish, and the tank painted to match the fairings. To all those who loved the pearl white paintwork... I did too! so I kept it, however I ordered the fairings to match the cbr954 scheme. What can I say, I LOVE IT! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: Project Bling mc22
So glad you kept the wheels different colours... She looks awesome!
Who did the paint for you? Looks brilliant! So once the Maccas racer is put back together which is going to remain as your ride...

Man looks MADD, I miss my 250. I reckon the front wheel chromed would top it off!

RE: Project Bling mc22
Nine you're becoming quite the pro at this, I don't know where you find the time or money to be working on 3 bikes.
She looks the goods mate, I was reading your O/P and saying to myself " please stay with the same colour " I like your chosen scheme but secretly I wish you had of went with the all white and chrome decals, nevertheless she looks hot like this. RE: Project Bling mc22
At the moment, the front wheel will soon be chromed up. Powdercoat is a son of a bitch to remove so I am looking at alternatives at the moment.
I had the fairings ordered and painted a custom pearl white and added a little touch of my own to the scheme. They are ABS and the quality on them is 10/10. The finish looks amazing! Scotty, its a hobby and hobbies are expensive! however hopefully from the resale of this one, I will make some money back and put that towards the other bikes. ![]() Fresh Europe Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kotchenography/ |
