Just a heads up, in the photo where you were grinding, just be careful in that textile jacket.

I'm not too sure how that particular jacket would go, but i have seen synthetic materials catch fire before and it spreads quick!!!

Just for reference, my old NC35 track bike had a CBR600 f4i shock installed. This is easier in one respect because it has a remote reservoir instead of a piggyback, so you don't need to chop and grind because you can place the res where you need it. Mine was cable tied to the subframe.

The rear suspension linkages on the CBR600RR runs on a 2:1 ratio IIRC and the RVF uses a 3.2:1 ratio so the standard 600RR spring is going to be very dangerous in an RVF. For it to actually work as it should, it will need to be resprung - by the time you pay for that it would have been worth just buying a Hagon shock from the UK for around $300, which would have been set up for your weight and usage, and would have slipped straight in without having to chop and change shit on your bike.

I suggest taking the shock to Harley at RB Imports (he should be back this week or next week) and getting him to put the proper weight spring in it. Will make a HUGE difference and may save you wrecking a bike which really does not deserve to be wrecked! (Also, a new spring will be cheaper than repairing it)

good luck getting a new Hagon shock for around $300...to be more precise its more like $400-450 + shipping...so close to or over $500 (still $150 or so cheaper than buying from Hagon Oz though) . i do agree that he shouldn't of put it on as is. needs to be at least revalved and correct spring put on.

Yeah $450+ shipping =S

So shocks don't have to be 'broken' to need replacing right? They just get progressively worse right? I'm thinking its probably a good investment...

Even if the factory one is in great condition, a properly set up aftermarket shock will amaze you!

Is it something that needs to be professionally set up once installed? I have no experience with them but assume it can't be that hard to set it to my weight, or am I far off...

To get the most out of it I would recommend a couple of hours with a pro. You could skip it and go without, but you may be missing out on that little bit extra. Probably best to talk to one first and get a plan happening rather than buy some shit, only to find out it's not suitable.

I can set it, but RB will do it better, and Zenodamper again will eclipse.

Go the 600RR shock. No point buying another old shock for your bike. Get an 04 600RR shock for $100 shipped from the US and fit it up. So much better than standard..
