180k brand new? It only cost 100k when it was released here. 68k in the states. You can now buy it new for 50k in the states.

New as in unsold versions. Made at the same time as the original model that couldn't be sold because of the price/recession or what ever.

110 new from ducati penrith. They even use the wet set up brakes the gp riders use.

But on topic, how is ducati going to keep up with the hondas and yamahas, the twin won't have the same topend the others do. Or the new rules with mean production bikes will now be v4's from now on? Then they could use what they already have yeah? Or ducati could just make a 1000cc desmo?
I always wondered why ducati couldn't use the desmos in wsbk over the 1098? its a production bike no?

Jesus christ.

They're not production bikes.

They're not production engines.

They're xx bore by xx stroke (i can't remember the exacts, so xx will do here) and that just so happens to to match the spec that most manufacturers run some of they're 1000cc engines at (or near enough so they could be modified to suit).
That's it. They only need the bore x stroke, the rest they can do what they want, relatively speaking.

duc basically made the desmo to bully the WSBK into giving them an extra 200cc's over the in line 4 bikes to be able to keep up with the BHP number (only way duc can win - cheat Tongue).
under the wsbks rules desmo would have been eligable to race and duc basically said to them that if they dont give the 1098 another 100cc then they'll just race the desmo. of course for duc it makes more sense to race the more mass produced 1198 because of its direct appeal to buyers.

as for duc using v twins in moto gp... OMFG! have you even read any of the thread? still prototype engines! dont have to use road based if they dont want. they can use what they want so duc's will still run the v4!!

as i have said before, rules up to now prohibited any componenets used in a production bike from being used on a gp bike. now, should the teams want they have the freedown to use COMPONENTS from a road going bike.

of course in theory someone could put a full stock engine in the crt bike but that would be pointless from the competitive side so no one will.

First, are you saying checa was riding an 1198 and not a restricted 1098r? I may have read your post wrong. Maybe that was the case when they built the desmos i'll assume.

Anyway, the thread title indicates claiming rules are to be introduced to the whole gp field . And from my understanding rules are rules and not options. At the moment they have an option of using production parts or engine blocks. what I'm asking is if they DO make it compulsory for all teams to follow this new rule then what would ducati likely be using?

Manufacturers have to product a certain amount of bikes for the model that they want to enter in WSBK. Plus have a team/sponsors that will support that.

So you can't really just man 50 or so desmo rr's and have it eligible to race in wsbk. Plus for team's the cost of running a desmo compared to a cbr would be massive.

Cool
