A question to all the racers here - Starting
I'll open with I won't kid myself I am a noob.
But next year I shall be hopefully getting alot more time on the track. I am interested in what sort of bucket racing options I can ruin, I currently have a cbr250 track bike and an rvf 400 I could track convert if I wanted. But i'd rather race the 250, is this possible in any form of club catergory? I'd like to keep the cost at < $5000 a year. It's not like I am going to be racing tomorrow but I want to know if the water is warm. |

$5k isnt going to get you far.. but its enough to start trying anyway and its definatelly doable. club racing these days is almost the same cost as track days.
you will need an MA licence - ~$330 a year i think club membership - $30 a year after that average weekend race entry fee is $440 per round. (approx) st george does run a 400cc race series thats a good place to start.. you could of course run your 250 but you will be giving away some bhp.. 400 would clearly be the way to go.. after that the cost is tyres, crashes and all depends on how far you want to take it. that said i am sure there is a 250cc race series being run somewhere. be warned - its addictive!

You could enter your cibbie in PCRA (post classic racing association) which is kind of affordable depending on what your idea of affordable is. A few of my mates race in that class and from memory they said it was the cheapest catergory, but i'm not to sure if you would get a full season out of your $5000.
I think the cost of travel and accomadation can be half the cost as most of the rounds are down at Wakefeild, with I think only one of two rounds at EC and even a round or twomdown at Broadford. I'll quiz them as to how much it costs but I have asked them before and from memory it was more than $5000 for a season, but they took it quite serious but if you're going to outlay to race who wouldn't take it serious? Here is all the info you may need to help decide if it may be something you'd be interested in http://www.postclassicracing.com.au/ I actually would love to have a crack myself but my job and finances say NO! That is getting towards what I was looking for. Ask what sort of bikes are in the class they race in and the grade of riders.
I really just want to get into something not ridiculously competitive and have some fun. Australia seems to be the worst country on the planet for motorsport. Next question, what is the farm? It's alot closer and easier for me to have regular blats at being in kulnura as I wanted to get 10 track days next year maybe I could do one or two at this illusive place. I emailed jamesy, I wonder if I'll get a reply. Alternatively who's to stop me trying to start my own 250-4 club and organize a season like everyone else? |
