RE: Project CBR250. Why punish myself.
Thanks guys. It's on the go slow now because I'm back at work and with a pending surgery coming up I need to keep some money for it. But I'm going to try get some valve lapping paste this weekend so I can finish off cleaning the head, lap the valves then re-assemble the head with the long annoying task of now working out what Shim went where (because my stupid ass didnt realise all the shims were stuck inside the little buckets that sit over the valves. At least I seperated them into intake and exhaust bags so I'm half way there).

RE: Project CBR250. Why punish myself.
Oh well I started to slowly reassemble the head during my time off work from surgery on me schnoz! I went to compress the valve springs to put the collars back in but found my valve spring compressor is way too big. What tool should I use to compress the springs? Is there a special spring compressor size for these heads or am I stuck with using those tuning fork looking things?

RE: Project CBR250. Why punish myself.
yes... but I used an oversized compressor too.
Just make bloody sure you dont scratch the sides of the bucket guides. there is a special tool you can buy from honda, or you can make one out of an old bucket

RE: Project CBR250. Why punish myself.
I've seen guys make a jig to use out of a piece of wood, fits in under the spring compressor and over the corners of the spring retainer. Easy to carve into shape and soft enough to not damage anything.

make life easy and use a magnet to take out the valve cotters. Try not to drop them. If you do, they are as good as lost.
