Project Sad Panda - MC22
Hey ya'll,

So here's my next project I started today... Project Sad Panda Smile

I picked her up about 3 months ago or so from a guy on here for $1100 who didn't know how to fix the oil leak. She definately needed more than the oil leak fixed let me tell you!

Here is how I got her!

All the fairing tabs were broken on her, H-frame bracket bent (mirror bracket), scratches down each side, tape holding the fairings together with zip ties, a MASSIVE OIL LEAK, speedo cluster broken and each bolt on this bike is different, from roofing screws to nut and bolts, to just bolts and all different sized heads, hahaha! Even the bolt holding the ignition was wrong and didn't even have two holding it in place... I really dont understand how someone could have ridden this bike without it falling apart!!! Almost everything was held together with zip ties!!

The strip down begins..

Check out the rear brake light, no actual connector, they've used an electrical connector and even then all the wires weren't in it, haha!

Speedo cluster removed, H-frame, tank, ignition, etc, etc...

Not sure where all that oil came from on the frame, but its possible this bike needs new steering head bearings aswell.

shits pretty dirty
[Image: iphonesadpanda011.jpg]

I'd already emptied the oil out of the bike a while ago, so as to stop it dripping more... and even after 10 minutes of having the bike up on the stands, this is the oil that dripped from somewhere.

carbies off and all the dirt and crap
[Image: iphonesadpanda014.jpg]

Im sure the oil has all come from the sump somewhere and blown up the back of the engine
[Image: iphonesadpanda016.jpg]

Speedo cable and sprocket cover off - noticed part of the block actually broken off and even the top bit of the sprocket cover (possibility when i get through all the oil that the front sprocket nut has come loose and the chain has chewed it all) Fingers crossed thats not the case!!

And my greasy hands after doing all that today

Here is how i left her today

Engine will hopefully be coming out next and the engine and bike degreased, oil leaks fixed and can check all the internals to see what they're like, such as clutch and basket, crankshaft, gearbox, etc. I will probably also do the valve clearances whilst the engine is out if I can get a head gasket when I am ready to do it, if not it might wait till a later date to do that Smile

HAHA, thanks guys Smile Yeah, i'll plan on getting a fairing kit when funds allow it Big Grin

Seems like a straight forward project atm, pretty much just clean her up really and replace the stuff that needs replacing. Im hoping I can get her mechanically finished by New Years and then just get a fairing kit first thing in Jan Smile
hahaha, humbug, I was actually thinking of keeping it the same also!!! The tank is already the standard scheme, so just needs some fairings to match Big Grin

Those are not greasy hands, I've had whacks and come away with dirtier hands than that.

RE: Project Sad Panda - MC22
what's with these colour schemed mc22s that make them get abused so badly. My project 22 is the exact same scheme. It won't be when its finished though.

Nice akeizm, what are your old fairings like? i.e. are they salvageable?

And I have to agree, I dont understand how people can ride a bike like this knowing its held together with zip ties and odd bolts and crap!? Why not just fix it and clean the damn thing properly every now and again!?
