KV100

This is by way an introduction as I am a new member here, I have, not long ago, purchased a KV100 to do as a project I'd like to blend some styles and make it a bit unique, love the cafe racer look an will go for that as the main theme but I am always open to suggestions. Try to post some pics:

The day I got her.

Standard condition from having sat around for 30 odd years.

The fuel tank was pretty bashed up so I made it worse and a feature of the bike by putting in some knee dents, found a great rattle can paint from Bunnings to cover it and it came up well, it will do til i find a better tank...eventually.

The wheels were not too good so I've done what I can short of sending them away and spending some big bucks to clean them up. I don't intend to spend a fortune on this bike as it is a first project and i am using it to cut my teeth doing this sort of thing. Here's a a pic of the front wheel up agains my revamped tank.

The bike has been stripped down completely and I have repainted the frame and so on. No pics to post of that yet but stay tuned.

I have had the front forks reconditioned and will get some rubber gaiters for them when I install them. To level the bike at the front I will just drop the headset at the tripple tree on the forks until it is at a good height. Cost $180 to get them reconditoined.

I did have a pic of the frame after all, I changed the colour since it is now copper instead of the white. It looks great against the black.

I've no idea how good or not the motor is but that can wait I at least know it turns over not started yet but it turns, the piston and bore look ok and there is compression.

I've pulled the wiring loom out and traced everything to where it all goes repaired what needed repairing and placed the loom in a protective sheath.
Now ready to install when the time comes.

There is more to show but this will do for starters, I see one other member is doing a KV too so I hope we can collaberate on the project.
I also have in my stable a Honda DN-01 hence my forum name. Also present is a Piaggio MP3 and a Bug Agility. I am enjoying the project with the KV. It is a time bandit though.

I was thinking I was the only one on drugs enough to like them

And you went copper on the frame! I wanted to do that too. I actually want to give mine a wooden cowl at the back with everything sort of galvanised. I've got some ideas, but yeah, its good to see your pics.

Mate I am a Kiwi and we used them to chase sheep way back when

I wasn't sure about posting on CBR forum a Kawasaki but i figured as I'm also a Honda owner...so here I am.

Oh the yellow is going completely...

Here is the new frame colour along with other bits I've painted.

The speedo wasn't working so I've pulled it apart and cleaned it up, I am repainting the casing...copper. I want to put a logo of some kind on the dial face I've kinda got some wildly misplaced idea I may tweek this bike to do the 'Ton' in keeping with tradition of Cafe Racers...that is if I am game to ride this old machine at that pace. So it will likely read "Do the ton...if you dare" In any event I am having fun with this thing.

Headlight bucket...I was going to paint these bits burgundy but may change that. What do you reckon?


Reassembly of the KV is near but I need headset bearings and am trying to track these down. I also haven't got a clear idea for the seat arrangement and the rear end. Open to suggestions!

Ok so i have made some progress on the KV I repaired the existing headset bearings they were just balls bearings after all and the races the balls sat in were in good condition so i found the correct size ball and replaced the existing with new.

So now the forks are on the frame with new boots too.



It is pretty much down to putting the bike together...a couple of major items to tackle yet, the motor and the seat.

Rear view, I will probably cut the handles down or buy some clipons for it.

By the way do you like my home made stand? Good height, I can move the bike around and turn the whole thing 360 degrees.
