leaking fuel into cylinders
found out some fuel is leaking from somewhere, thought at first it was from outside the carbs, but after I removed carbs and had a look I found this:
when sitting on bike, the 2 leftmost carbs were wet (dripping) with fuel ![]() the 2 rightmost carbs were dry ![]() also finding my bike is hard to start, i believe it may be related? I think my fuel bowl is overflowing, but I am not sure as to the reason. I believe I also have outside fuel leak as the starter motor area is wet with fuel. I may have to change carby gaskets. Someone have any input? I plan to do a thorough carb clean over the weekend to see what's causing the leak. I'm just scared to mess up the jet settings as I have no experience synching and balancing carbs. Thanks! Project BlueBlade Rebuild http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-508.html |

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
Hey mate,
If fuel was flowing down into the cylinders, no doubt you would have a hunk load of fuel down in your sump with your oil! This is probably going to be the reason for it starting rough or hard to start. First thing before you start the bike anymore and fuck up things like rings, empty out your sump which will be full of fuel and oil. You should then pull your carbies apart and rebuild them for sure, its possible even the floats are stuck open from a heap of gunk in your carbies or something of the likes. I would also then check your fuel tank for rust and make sure you have a fuel filter and that its clean. Best thing to do is to note down what each of the mixture screw settings are set to, count how many turns from the position they are at now, to the point that they are fully screwed in. Then you know how many times to unturn each setting from fully screwed in. Pumpkin, I hate pumpkin!

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
yea, oil probably full of gas by now, as i had been trying to start her since last week.
puzzles me what could have caused the carby blockage as it was fully cleaned last year, tank has little to no rust, and there is a fuel filter between petcock and carbys. will update you after I open the carbys up for a looksie. regarding the jettings, i've been reading the maintenance section diligently, hoping i wont mess things up, or else i'm gonna be spending $$$ for a mechanic Project BlueBlade Rebuild http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-508.html |

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
You don't need to worry about messing with the air/fuel ratio by touching the jets.. Unless you change the size over. The pilot screws are ok to mess with. Count how many turns until you tighten it up, write it down, then set it to standard in the manual (if all goes wrong because pilot settings were accounting for fooked carbs, you can put them back to what you had).. The only other time you might need to balance the carbies is if you touch the sync screws..
http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-7022.html shows the difference between the two. As madman said prolly a stuck float, but check that your float bowl drain bolts are not open as well partially. Also a good idea to change your oil early for this up and coming service. |

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
The float needle is not sealing on the brass seat.

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
cleaned out my carbs earlier today, surprised to find so much gunk when I sprayed carb cleaner into the carb bodies and bowl
i could see that 3 of the slow jets were completely blocked, could be the reason why bike would not start need some advise regarding pilot screw settings: I counted the turns, and this is what i got: 4,3,2,1 (with 4 being leftmost when sitting on bike, and 1 being rightmost) 4th - 3 1/4 turns 3rd - 3 turns 2nd - 3 turns 1st - 2 1/4 turns does anyone know the standard pilot screw settings for MC22 (L) ? Some info on the jets installed: Mains 1 and 4 - #102, 2 and 3 - #102 Slow jets all #35 Ebay straight thru can. Also one more thing I noticed, my jet needle and pilot screw both do not have washers and O rings. would this be a problem? thanks. Project BlueBlade Rebuild http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-508.html |

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
The RRL should be 1 3/4 turns out.
It should have 105's in the outer 2 cylinders and 102's in the inner 2. The missing washers and O-rings will cause issues. The o-rings can be found at many places as can the needle washers, the pilot screw washers may be a bit harder as they are tiny. Look up the part numbers on here: http://www.cmnsl.com and head to a Honda dealer. |

RE: leaking fuel into cylinders
As for the fuel on your starter, as your carbies overflow into the inlet, it all escapes out of the carbie overflow tubes, they are the 2 little rubber tubes poking there heads out between carbies 1+2, and 3+4.
The fuel will flow out of there and pour onto the starter motor, mine does it every now and then. Dont worry bout your carbie gaskets.
