RE: Trouble setting CBR idle to 1500RPM...
It's not your starter motor.
It's in the carb set up. Just follow the guide on here to clean them and return them to the factory settings. Hard to start issues could be the blocked air filter, acts like a choke when cold, and then hard to start warm. Clear some time on the weekend to have a good look. |

RE: Trouble setting CBR idle to 1500RPM...
Update:
Since I don't have any shed room to store the bike in or work on it. I have decided that it would be better to just take it to Honda and get a general service + a carb service/clean. I had no time over the weekend as I had to go get my wisdom teeth out; fun times. ![]() It pains me to do this as half the reason i purchased an older bike was to learn from it, but I have concerns I will end up munting the bike. My main concern is getting the bike running well and if ~$600 will do that then I am happy to pay it......... :/ It must be running rich as it seems to be using quite a bit petrol; almost ran out the weekend before. Thank science for the reserve switch. ![]() Hopefully in the near future some room will become available and I will be able to tinker to my heart's content. Will have to buy a tool set before then. Lol Thanks again people. **edit** Spelling... ![]() "All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; only the dose permits something not to be poisonous." - Paracelsus |

Good to see you checked your spelling
![]() It's a lot of money to spend at a mechanics. If you insist on doing it and not taking the 5 hours it takes to strip your bike the first time then make bloody sure you take it to a good mechanic, not just any old one... Some mechanics have no idea when it comes to carbies and these bikes and you can get the bike back running worse.. SO choose wisely. Personally I would search on here for a good place and if you are not satisfied with the answers start a thread.

But, if I did stuff something up I would probably not sleep until it was fixed. I have a habit of making sure things are done right the first time.

RE: Trouble setting CBR idle to 1500RPM...
If you have never touched a spanner to a bike and you want to fiddle with your carbs it is going to take you a while. When you think about it though, it's not really all that involved, you just take off fairings, fuel tank, air filter etc then you can look at the carbs. Depending on what you do, wether you take them off and clean them or just adjust them on the bike your adding on more time. If you pull the carbs apart, you might need to get new seals, so thats a whole lot of dead time while you wait.
You might also want to change spark plugs while you have everything off, so thats more time. Then you have to rig up a fuel delivery device to run the bike without the fuel tank so you can tune the carbs. Once thats all done you have to put everything back together. So it could take you a while I ended up doing mine over a period of 2 weeks. Pulled it apart one afternoon, ordered a kit for the carbies on the monday which didn't turn up till the following monday (from honda dealer) then i put it together the next weekend. Also did some other things whilst it was all apart, new plugs, radiator cap, tested the electric fan as the bike was getting hot etc. But if you had an experienced hand to show you the ropes, and you were just playing with the carbs settings then you could do it in a day with a few beers Oh and having the right tools can also be the difference between getting it done and taking forever. |

Carbs is piss easy mate. You don't need much room. Just chuck a towel over your dining table and pull the carbs off in the morning, pull em apart, clean em all out and reassemble. It really shouldn't take long to clean them, probably 3-4 hours max. I wouldn't give it to a mechanic, half the time they just pull the float bowl cover off and spray carb cleaner it in and and then chuck it back together.
Do it yourself, you said you want to learn, so learn. There really us no reason for you not to do it. Pussy. |

RE: Trouble setting CBR idle to 1500RPM...
if the idling is hunting (ie going up and down) its prob that your carbs need a balance or the mixture screws are out/diry carbs.
Also, how is the condition of your idle adjuster screw thingo? I had one that was sort of rusted in an L shape... so you could only adjust it at 360 degree incriments lol. If I turned it say 90 degrees, it would be difficult to turn and would return back to where it was... so if its giving you strife, take it out and give it a good bending and spray some WD40 in there and should be as good as new... ish.

Yeah you could do it in an afternoon ya big big puss.. ![]() Or if you want, pull apart in the late arvo (takes about 1 hour or so), clean in the evening inside on your desk, then put them back in the morning.. Would take 10 hours max if you were as careful as I was when I did it the first time, and I scrubbed and cleaned the outside of the carbs with a copper and wire brush to make them look shiny. Though probably about 5.
