Read my thread about racing.
Your Melbourne yes?
NSW doesn't have a class but Vic and qld have an eligible class.
I would love to start a beginers club, 125 and 250cc four stroke racing.
Have qualifying times race groups and require a select amount of track time before entry and focus it at beginners so the old boys don't come in and steal our fun.

Cheers for the tip Em Sea
(here's the link for any future searches that land up here: http://cbr250.com/forum/thread-7710.html)

but unfortunately I live in Sydney usually (just up in QLD over the summer)

Isn't a 700 an awkward displacement though? Just too big for 600's and then not as powerful as the 1000's?

I think I need to decide whether I want to race or just do a heap of trackdays...
I would assume trackdays would be a lot cheaper, but racing sounds like it'd be amazing fun. Though tbh probably should do a year's worth of trackdays before starting racing (just so I'm better on the bike).
Thoughts?

cheers for all the advice so far.

question: where does one look for trackbikes? Or do people not usually sell them on? In which case where's a good place to look for written off bikes (as in NSW's version of 'written off')

'Speed bump'? I think you mean 'ramp'

My bike is registered but would make a good trackie as it already has virgin raceglass on it. Maybe not so good for racing though because yeah you might not find an appropriate class. Cheap ones go for about $4K and I'm only looking for 2. At that price you could sell it for what you paid for it. PM me if you want to ask anything.

'tiK.

And that's why your clevermetal instead of sillymetal.

I don't know if it's a year of trackdays but I think you'll be better off with more than one trackday before you go racing.

I agree with those that have advised to look at a 600. I was also looking at a 400 but after riding one decided it wasn't for me.
Something like this??

My first track bike was a 2002 ZX6R...ZX636r. Great bike for a first track bike. It was advertised for $5k and I got it for $3100. Did about 6 trackdays on it, didn't cost me a cent.
I sold it to a mate for what I bought it for.

Upgraded to a newer bike....got an R6 that the previous owner had spent a bit on setting it up. Love it.

I can't believe how addictive trackdays are...even more so after you've done a few. Racing apparently is even more addictive.
I'm all set for some racing this year. Can't wait but just wished I'd done it years ago.

I may know of a trackbike that would suit you, I'll find out if it's still for sale.
I'll PM you my number.

Happy to answer any track related questions or help out if I can.
