After you've done the basic checks like clutch in, sidestand up, killswitch etc, might be a good idea to check your battery voltage when you press the starter
Open circuit voltage doesn't tell you much, or connect jumper leads from a car battery to it to rule out the battery (read the thread in the maintenance section on jump starting if you're not sure) Also if you haven't done them recently then might be a good idea to replace your spark plugs From what i've read its not a good idea to clean the tips with a wire brush |

yeah bits of metal will stay on the ceramic and will just foul even more.
The best way to clean spark plugs is probably glass bead blast or soda blasting as its a non conductive material

You can clean em up to help pinpoint a fault but you won't get any longevity out of them.

I clean plugs with carby cleaner and a stiff toothbrush.
