idling funny
hey,

iv noticed recently that when i stop at the traffic lights or something the bike is idling odd, it will sit between 1 and 2k but it will drop down and then jump back up, im thinking maybe its dirty fuel or something? it sounds like its not getting enough fuel or something and then getting a burst

any ideas?

thinking about booking it in to get the carbies cleaned, could probably do it myself but im lazy and it would take me longer then if they did it

RE: idling funny
Don't fuckin book it in for carb clean! Jeebus. They will charge you an arm and a leg, and it probably won't even be done right. Do it yourself, 5 hours of your time, max, if you're a nub at it.

But I'm going to say they need a balance, which is why it's idling funny.

RE: idling funny
Sounds like the pilot screws might just need a little tweaking... Either a little rich or lean, can't remember which gives these symptoms...

RE: idling funny
There's a big ass write up on here. It's really not as difficult as you think. I felt the same before doing mine, thought it would be full of tiny parts that will fall out and I'll get them mixed up and ruin my bike when I try to run it, but it's nothing like that.

Here you go, have a read, it's really simple. Carby cleaning.

RE: idling funny
lay a light coloured sheet on ya kitchen table and lay everthing out in order as u take it apart......Take photos of each stage and make notes if u have to. I pulled mine apart for the first time 8 weeks ago and did exactly that.....no prob. Just pulled my brothers apart today gave em a clean and blowout and put em back together in under an hour, piece of cake after the first time!

RE: idling funny
It's nowhere near as difficult as it looks, I learnt from that thread first time I did mine! Just give it a go, remember to keep everything labelled and organised when you pull it all apart... You'll feel great once you've got it all back together running mint again!

RE: idling funny
also take care not to strip the screw heads for both the carbs bowls and vaccuum diaphram cover, they are very soft and most likely will be stuck if the carbs have not been opened up for a long time!

would recommend changing the screws as well.

if you need info on balancing your carbs after you clean them, i just made a mini tutorial, check out the link
