RE: Anyone Heard of Spark Plug Side Gapping?
but isnt iridium plugs not suitable for hot areas such as australia?
CR8EH-9 are hotter why not try that? |

RE: Anyone Heard of Spark Plug Side Gapping?
they dont run hotter, the run as hot as the numerical index on them indicates!!
This is my engine. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My engine is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my engine is useless. Without my engine, I am useless. |

RE: Anyone Heard of Spark Plug Side Gapping?
I have four common variety underpants gnomes with bbq clickers. Much more economical than these spark plugs

RE: Anyone Heard of Spark Plug Side Gapping?
well there's a difference in application. what works on the track doesnt work for everyday riding

RE: Anyone Heard of Spark Plug Side Gapping?
As I understand... achieving a higher peak pressure from the burn results in more overal efficiency and resulting power. So you want to ignite the mixture quickly and uniformly. The mixture is swirling around, so the spark ignites a flame front as the mixture passes. A longer spark (bigger plug gap) and/or a spark of a longer duration (igniting a longer flame front) can therefore aid to increasing the burn rate. Having multiple points where that spark occurs on the plug would do the same thing. There would however be a point of diminishing returns. Also... the more the spark is shielded by the electrode, the less exposure the spark has to the swirling mixture... and could reduces initial flame front propagation. So if the plugs electrode isn't symmetrical, you may even find a bees dick difference is peak pressure produced just by turning the plug another 90 degrees.
More spark will help if the ignition is poor to start with. But if you have a multi-point plug and then don't have the coil pack needed to drive it... you may find that you'll get a weaker (cooler) set of sparks which don't burn as well. Using a better coil will solve that, but you need one that charges in the same time... otherwise the dwell will be too short and the coil won't be charged enough to generate the needed spark energy. At least for a CBR250... I don't think you'll get much out of it. When I did the ignition feed bypass to the coils, I got around 15% more power to the coils which would have given a hotter spark. But I could only measure a noticeable difference for engine starting and at idle (where the alternator is weak). But it made no difference at all with video recorded throttle roll on tests. I wouldn't expect multi-electrode would make a big difference to a CBR250 engine... unlike bigger car engines where the cylinder sizes are massive in comparison. |

Interesting Eclipze.
On 2 strokes with head inserts you get optimum set up and burn patterns with the plugs electrode facing the exhaust port. |
