d3o, interesting material
I don't know if you guys have seen this newish product but d30 looks awesome. It is a material which has interesting properties. I saw their initial video of this material 1 or 2 years ago but they didn't have it applied to anything yet. I've been waiting for it to be applied to motorcycle protective gear and it looks like it has been released to FirstGear products. Anyway here are some videos to show you what it is!

RE: d3o, interesting material
I had a massive troll around youtube after reading this.

Seems like quite an interesting material, but very thin; almost too thin.

TBH I am not convinced in its shock absorbing capabilities as of yet and probably will not buy it until it gets certified. I notice that almost all of the videos are of people whacking on the goo with a hammer, but I want to see a full body test.

Here is what convinced me that it is too thin.

I think it has great capabilities, an olympic ski team has used it in their gear, but I need something to give me confidence in the product.

+1 to this.

Yeah I saw the above video, I agree that it is too thin but for other purposes (snowboarding, skateboarding etc) it is fine for that thickness.

This could do wonders for the scooter community and people who do not like wearing thick and heavy gear.

Does it have to be that thin? Couldn't they just make it the same size as standard CE armour which has a much higher safety and impact rating?

What would be cool is if you had this sort of armour as a sleve, and upon impact the whole sleve stiffens around the whole arm like a cocoon. But from what I can tell only the side of impact would harden in an impact, offering no real advantage over standard armour.

RE: d3o, interesting material
Well, it seems I stand corrected. I went looking for waterproof and textile jackets today and d30 padding IS CE certified. I ended up purchasing the DriRider climate control Exo jacket; which has the CE certified d30 armour. Head Bang

It is FAR more comfortable than the standard CE approved armour in the other jackets I tried on . It has a few of these d30 tags over it and it even came with a pamphlet saying it is approved. Tongue I only purchased it as it had a better fit and was easily more comfortable than the others I tried on. The padding is way more flexible than I gave it credit for and it feels nice and snug when on. Big Grin

**Pics to come soon**
