Tyga OEM Parts made in Thailand from Tyga? Actually Genuine Honda?

    Hi,

I'm after a rectifier for my MC22 and was gobsmacked to find them costing as much as $250, with $160-$180 being a median price for these things. Of course you have the el cheapo gear on eBay ($40ish) but I always prefer to get OEM or a trusted aftermarket brand. The problem is I don't trust any of those aftermarket brands.

I was surprised to find Tyga carries these rectifiers (it's not in the MC22 category, but same part number) and it is only ~$40. I inquired about the low price and was assured it was Genuine Honda OEM and made in Thailand. I though OEM parts were made in Japan? Nonetheless, anyone bought the Tyga OEM gear and is it up to scratch (considering they're selling it for $140 less than my usual OEM outlets)?

Link to Tyga in case other want one too: http://tyga-performance.com/site/product_info.php?cPath=72_88_175&products_id=715

Honda, Triumph, Ducati and even Suzuki have manufacturing plants in Thailand.

Don't assume everything from Thailand is crap, but still remain sceptical of the eBay units and other cheap brands.

You can either run one off a CBR600 2007 model (with a plug change) or buy the one from Tyga.

Plenty of Honda parts are made in Thailand

    Some are pretty good.

    Alternatively, get a R1 rectifier

At a guess, the original ones installed on the bikes would have been made in Japan. However, after a decade or two they would most likely have been superseded and replaced by cheaper alternatives (hence now being made in Thailand). If they continued to make them in Japan they would probably be worth a lot more.

And I can assure you they are genuine Honda. I've got a box full of genuine Honda stuff sitting here supplied by Tyga. A lot of the cheaper bikes are made in Thailand, Ninja 250R, new CBR250R and 125R, new Ninja 300.

doesnt make a difference where something is made, just who it's made by, if it's made by honda it will have to be made to honda spec if its made in china for honda same thing. if it's made in china by some random company it will be made what ever way they want, and bets is it will be made as cheaply as possible

As a follow up, the part was indeed a genuine Honda part, in the box and everything. It seems the Tyga guys (just like they told me) sell the parts cheap because they can! Made a definite return customer out of me, that's for sure.
