    Frame modification require cert in VIC?

    Howdy!
    Just wondering if anyone has done any frame mods here in vic?
    I have my little 85 GSX250 and I'm looking to cafe the arse on it.
    I haven't given it the chop just yet as it's un reg'd and I'll still need to get it RW.
    The plan is to powder coat the frame so any mods like the tail need to be done first..... Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers Steve

    Bugger that! Club register it! Are you going to ride it more than twice a week? If not, then you're golden.

    Either get a RWC, or better yet, make sure the club does 'safety inspections' and get it safety inspected. Provided it has reasonable mufflers, all lights, isn't pissing out oil and shows that you've obviously taken some care, you'll be fine. Much easier than a RWC
    Take all the paperwork to VicRaods - registered in about 10 mins
    Done

    I have 2 bikes and 1 car on 'red plates'. Incredibly good scheme

    What James said, but in terms of Cafe-racer'ing it - as long as it still has a compliant mudflap it's all good. So you might have to make a temp mudflap to pass the inspection, then rip that ugly thing off!

    Here are the rego requirements for pre '88 vehicles;

    http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/2F4D64FE-B1A5-48D1-B848-19CD5F8176D7/0/VSI4.pdf

    In theory anything other than an approved modification must be certified by a VASS before being approved for road rego, but, for motorbikes, this doesn't appear to be enforced at all... I'd just give it a crack and see how it goes, but it would probably pay to ensure that its a reversible mod if you go down this path.

    As an aside, if you're going to cut subframes etc, it would probably be a good idea to have an engineer look at it... not necessarily a VASS, if you've got any mates who are engineers and want to offer some advice they may end up saving you from ending up sitting on your rear tyre after a big bump
